There's a scene in the movie Urban Cowboy that features a Dolly Parton Look-a-Like contest at Gilley's, the rodeo bar where love is just a mechanical bullride away. The contest is exactly as you would imagine, each women done up and perked up in all the right places with that famous blonde coiffure curled into all shapes and sizes. But one thing is missing from the row of wannabes, the essence of what made Dolly Parton the woman we all know and love.-her guitar! Girls Rock Austin realized this discrepancy, not only in the film but also in real life and they are determined to get a guitar into the enthusiastic hands of young girls all over Austin and yours, too-complete with Dolly's autograph!

From now until March 16th, a $10 donation to Girls Rock Austin will get you TWO chances to win a Takamine acoustic guitar autographed by the Dolly Parton! A donation to Girls Rock Austin supports the only non-profit in Austin to provide young girls with the opportunity to attend Girls Rock Camp, a hands-on summer camp that teaches girls of all backgrounds and skill levels how to write and play their own music. Established women musicians lead sessions on Songwriting, Music History and Music Business, along with ample amounts of band practice in preparation for a completely original and empowering showcase where the newly formed rockers show off their skills. Nearly half of all campers who attend Girls Rock Camp do so with the help of scholarships, further extending the organizations reach to girls whose dreams of becoming a musician may otherwise never be realized.

It's organizations like Girls Rock Camp that cultivate and nurture the diverse music scene in Austin-our city's signature on Texas. Dolly's signature on the instrument that opened up her world makes a similar statement: share your gifts with others and hear it come back to you in a song.
