Record-breaking Snowfall in DFW

The state of Texas will probably never know what it feels like to have a poorly constructed pun thought up for one of its snowstorms, but at least our Dallas counterparts can enjoy the glory of a long weekend. The DFW area broke its all-time 24-hour snowfall record early Friday morning with 12.5 inches of snow.

American Airlines reportedly canceled over 300 flights today, mostly in the Dallas area. Meanwhile, more than 500,000 students are pardoned from school, and over 200,000 homes and businesses are without power. No word yet on how TexSnowmageddon Snowpocalypse the storm will affect ticket sales for Valentine's Day the movie, but there are likely more than a few Dallas-area teenaged girls (and women) crying into their Taylor Lautner-shaped pillows at this very moment.

While structural damage remains at a minimum, the snow-covered roof of a tire warehouse in west Dallas collapsed while the store was closed. No injuries were reported.

Snow in the Dallas area began to taper off Friday, though a winter storm warning remains in effect. The moderately chaotic winter weather comes at a time when the east coast is returning to normal after its own stormy conditions.
