After much anticipation, hand wringing, rumors and truisms, the date has finally come for the three-night stand at Beerland celebrating the release of Matador’s Casual Victim Pile compilation. This trio of evenings will feature almost all of the bands on the comp performing live, save for just a few.
This first night at Beerland features the ‘90s nostalgia of Kingdom of Suicide Lovers, the economical Distant Seconds, grooving buzz band Follow That Bird!, the echo-laden Dikes of Holland, and the synth-assisted rock of The Persimmons.
While not the biggest week in Beerland’s history, this string of shows and the release of Casual Victim Pile - a musical testament to Austin’s more insurgent punk acts - certainly stands out as one of the most vivid celebrations of the unhinged, unpolished rock that is the venue’s mainstay.
