Longhorn National Championship Gear Headed to Haiti
In an effort to be the first on store shelves with Longhorn national championship memorabilia, manufacturers produced an early run of some 14,000 shirts and hats in case Texas beat Alabama. But as fans sadly remember, that didn't happen. The Crimson Tide knocked Colt McCoy out of the game and went on to a 37-21 victory.
But the University Co-op is making the most of the situation, working with Kids In Distressed Situations Inc. to send the gear to earthquake-ravaged Haiti.
“With the terrible tragedy and loss the Haitian people have suffered and are still experiencing, we do realize this donation may not be a very high priority for them," George H. Mitchell, the University Co-op president, told the Statesman. "However, we all need clothing and this is a small contribution we can make to assist in their recovery.”
