Weekend Art Roundup

There are many great art events taking place around town this weekend, here are a few of the highlights:

Tonight, the ink-slingers over at Industry Print Shop (2503 B E. 6th St.) are celebrating the one year anniversary of PRINT+addiction screen printing parties. Stop by the shop between 6pm and 10pm for some live, hot, screen printing action courtesy of the Amazing Hancock Brothers. Industry's eight color press will be ready to go with various designs from the brothers' collection of twisted folk images. Attendees can purchase a shirt, choose as many designs as they would like, design their own layout, and even squeegee their own ink.

Also tonight, Domy Books is hosting Art Work, a conversation about art and economics as part of a nationwide discussion on the topic. Check out our full piece on the event for more details.

All weekend long, Co-Lab (613 Allen St.) will be home to an interactive installation by New York artist Alyssa Taylor Wendt. ((TRANSFER STATION)) will include three listening/recording stations where viewers can listen to a fable, news story, or description of an allegorical film by the artist - they are then encouraged to retell the passage. Alyssa will select a new version to be retold each day. The "Telephone"-like audio installation will be paired with large chromogenic prints that illustrate the stories. On Sunday between 6pm and 8pm, the final versions of audience created audio will be contrasted with the originals during the installation's closing reception.

Mixed media artist Lance McMahan will have a reception for his latest exhibit, Monoliths & Artifacts, at BiRDHOUSE Gallery (1304 E. Cesar Chavez) on Sunday starting at 6pm. McMahn plays with photography, words, found objects, painting, and images of wild cat heads to create compelling collages and thoughtful mixed media art work.
