Last night, in his sleep, garage rocker Jay Reatard died. He had performed at Emo's just last December.
Born Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., Reatard was currently signed to Matador Records and was formerly on Goner Records, owned by previous Oblivian member Eric Friedl.
Matador issued a statement, saying, "We are devastated by the death of Jimmy Lee Lindsey Jr., aka Jay Reatard. Jay was as full of life as anyone we’ve ever met, and responsible for so many memorable moments as a person and artist. We’re honored to have known and worked with him, and we will miss him terribly."
The Memphis Commercial Appeal states that the musician was found in his home early this morning. There is an investigation under way by the Memphis police.
