In its eighth year of existence, the No Idea Festival continues in 2010 with performances in Houston, Austin, Dallas and San Antonio. The festival brings together improvisational musicians who perform for audiences while learning from and playing with other experimental artists from all over the world.

This year's Austin arm of the festival will take place at 411 Monroe St., and features local scene luminaries as well as visitors. First up, Dave Dove will perform his contribution to the "Screwed Anthologies" project, which consists of work inspired by DJ Screw and his long-lasting imprint on remix culture.

The second set consists of local musicians Nick Hennies and Chris Cogburn improvising alongside Jesse Kudler, a multi-instrumentalist out of Philadelphia. The last set features Remi Alvarez (saxophone, flute) from Mexico City, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten (double bass) from Oslo, and percussionist Stefan Gonzalez from Dallas.

Regarding this year's theme of seeds and systems, the No Idea website reads: "This year’s festival is focusing on a series of strong, consolidated, smaller events (seeds) in the spirit of connecting international artists, audiences, presenters and organizations with the intention of helping to facilitate greater exchange between creative musicians internationally, and between México and the US specifically (systems)."
