Freescale Shows Off Its Design for a Tablet Computer

Tablet computers -- touchscreen devices that are larger than a phone but smaller than a laptop -- are the hot tech topic of 2010. Speculation is rampant that Apple will debut a tablet later this year, but Freescale isn't waiting around. They've debuted a design today that they believe can sell for around $200.

Freescale's prototype design features a seven-inch touchscreen with 512 MB of memory and between 4-64 gigabytes of internal storage. There's also Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS, USB 2.0 and a 3-megapixel camera.

Its slim profile (7.87 inches wide / 5.03 inches tall / 0.58 inches thick) and light weight (13.2 ounces) make it about one-third the size of a typical netbook.

Freescale won't sell the design directly to consumers. Manufacturers can buy the design from Freescale and customize it to meet their needs.
