Austinist, WOXY & Matador Present Casual Victim Pile: Austin 2010

It's official: 2010 is going to be an explosive year for the Texas scene. With new releases slated for big names like The Sword, Spoon and Midlake and up-and-comers Harlem, it's no surprise that Austin is getting its fair share of national attention. Matador's Casual Victim Pile (pre-order now) features nineteen bands from Austin (well, two are from Denton) and will no doubt raise Austin awareness to even newer heights.

Today, we're happy to announce that in February, Austinist, WOXY and Matador will present a three night music extravaganza at Beerland to celebrate the January release of Casual Victim Pile. For $5 a night, you'll be treated to performances by all but two of the bands featured on the album (The Teeners have since split up and Tre Orsi will be out of town). Of the comp, Matador's Gerard Cosloy says, "Let me be crystal clear --- this compilation is only meant to reflect what I like in Austin circa 2008-2010 and you can probably name the inexcusable omissions just as quickly as I can. But there's something to be said for a highly arbitrary take on things."

Check out the tentative lineups and links to all the band's music at the Matablog. Sample tracks from the album here.
