Free Week: Where Will You Be? [Beerland, Emo's, Mohawk, More]

Started by Graham Williams at Emo's about six years ago to liven up the quiet winter nights, the tradition of Free Week has continued to grow each year. About the event, Williams says, "The same way 1st Thursday on South Congress and other sort of organic event happen [sic] in Austin around local businesses, press and artists, without the support of the city or support of a big business, this continues to keep happening in Austin and the reason we all move here and stay." This year, Stubb’s, the Parish, Beerland and the Beauty Bar will also participate.

Lions, T-Bird and the Breaks, Ume, the Laughing, Corto Maltese, PJ and the Bear, We’ll Go Machete, the Carrots and even San Antonio’s Hacienda will all perform at Transmission venues, and Emo's has posted their schedule online. They'll be hosting Coma in Algiers, Booher and the Turkeyz, Bear Claw, the Carrots, Born to Lose, Yellow Fever, the Golden Boys, the Hex Dispensers, the Eastern Sea and many more.

Stubb's will host Leatherbag, Jesse Woods, the White Hotel, and the Pons. So far Beerland has shows listed by Flametrick Subs and Black Panda, but we expect more to be announced soon. The Parish has dates blocked for Free Week between Jan. 6-10, but no details are available yet. We'll be sure to keep you posted on all the festivities as more details become available.
