They don’t have an official website. Allmusic.com doesn’t have a bio on them. And Pitchfork hasn’t written them up just yet. So what exactly is this collective from Louisiana called Givers and why should you go see them this Friday at The Parish Room?

Well, we know they formed in 2008, started their blog this June, occasionally offer fans rides to their concerts, and opened for The Dirty Projectors at Antone’s a couple of months ago.

As for their sound, addictive melodies garnished with sugary sweet vocal harmonies and slew of whimsical instrumentation is the Givers’ forte. Pulsating beats, chiming bleeps, and irresistible rhythms keep those toes tapping throughout, and the nifty compositions are delivered with enough unbridled enthusiasm to trigger an uncontainable urge to dance the night away. It’s all quite captivating.

Givers’ live set (which includes a light show) is much like a Los Campesinos! or Architecture In Helsinki experience -- an aural onslaught from a talented crew of versatile musicians that adeptly coalesce a wide array of influences (including elements of Calypso and African music) into compelling ear candy. Intriguing art-pop from The Laughing is first up on the schedule this evening; scintillating synth-rock from The Lemurs’ follows soon after. Enter your information in the form below for a chance to enjoy it all for free!
