Giveaway: Red Bull Locally Thrown @ The Mohawk [Thursday]

Whether you buy into the lofty “Live Music Capital of the World” tag or not, there’s no doubt that Austin is a fertile breeding ground for musicians. Walk through downtown on any given day of the week and you’ll easily find a live band or a solo crooner performing at one of the many, many bars and clubs that light up our city centre on a nightly basis. Whether you want to settle in for some blues, thrash around to punk, get down to house, or just enjoy a straight up rock ‘n’ roll act, Austin has something for everyone.

Red Bull is taking advantage of our city’s penchant for nurturing an inexhaustible amount of talent with quite a novel idea. This Thursday, The Mohawk hosts Red Bull Locally Thrown, a truly unique event where six of Austin’s finest disc jockeys -- DJ Manny, DJ Orión, Prepmode, DJ Bigface, Richard Gear, and DJ JE will mix, match, and spin ten local bands’ music. It is a celebration of all things Austin music and you definitely need to be there, and as a V.I.P. no less. Enter the contest form below for a chance to mingle with the DJs and bands, and enjoy some complimentary Red Bull, no doubt.

The ten chosen bands represent a number of genres and embody a pretty solid slice of the city’s music scene. Expect to hear bits ‘n’ pieces of the songs you love by The Octopus Project, Riverboat Gamblers, Lions, The Black and White Years, White Ghost Shivers, Nelo, The Lemurs, Brothers and Sisters, Black Joe Lewis & The Honeybears, and The Story Of. The show serves as a benefit for Riverboat Gamblers’ guitarist Ian McDougall, who incurred heavy injuries in October when he was hit by a car while on his bike. We checked up on his health earlier this week and we’re glad to report that he’s on the road to recovery. Per Fadi el-Assad from the band, “Ian is doing much better. His brain injury has shown no sign of swelling or hemorrhaging and he's now in the long period of mending broken bones and physical therapy.” You can also contribute funds to the cause by purchasing a Riverboat Gamblers t-shirt via the band’s website.
