Ice Skating, Cupcakes, and Tasty Treats: Eat Local Week Continues

Edible Austin's Eat Local Week continues through this weekend. All week long, area restaurants and markets are serving locally sourced meals with proceeds from the sales of those items going to support Urban Roots. Eat Local Week events are taking place all over town; here's a rundown of what's going on today and tomorrow...

Monday

Stop by Finn & Porter tonight starting at 5pm for a fancy happy hour featuring a Texas based menu of hearty appetizers and treats from the Cupcake Bar. Music will be provided by Hans Stockenberger and all proceeds from the $45 tickets go to Urban Roots. Check out the mouthwatering menu and purchase tickets online.

The chefs and movie lovers at the Drafthouse are bringing us yet another Food and Film event to be thankful for - tonight at 7pm at the Alamo on South Lamar the world's best movie theater chefs, John Bullington and Trish Eichelberger will be preparing an exquisite five-course French feast to accompany a special showing of Julie and Julia. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online.

Tuesday

Stop by Whole Foods downtown from 5-10pm and enjoy a 50 minute ice skating session (including skate rentals) for only $10, with proceeds benefiting Urban Roots. Enjoy live entertainment and refreshments from local food, wine, and beverage vendors.

From 6:30-8pm, the Austin Museum of Art will be hosting a Gulf Sampler event. Southern food historian Elizabeth Engelhardt will be joined by Arthouse director Sue Graze, chef Jesse Griffiths, and fisherman Robert San Miguel as they discuss the history and importance of regional food. The $15 ticket price includes exhibition viewing and a sampling of local cuisine.

am I the only one that thinks that eating locally (and reducing food miles) is at odds with having an outdoor skating rink in a city that gets below freezing once a month during the two-ish months of winter?
