BCS Makes It Official: Texas vs. Alabama in National Title Game

The Texas Longhorns will make their second appearance in five years in the Bowl Championship Series national championship game after a last-second win over Nebraska on Saturday.

Texas (13-0) plays Alabama (13-0) for the BCS title. The Crimson Tide defeated Florida in the SEC championship game.

The other BCS matchups announced Sunday night are:

  • Rose Bowl: Ohio State vs. Oregon
  • Sugar Bowl: Florida vs. Cincinnati
  • Fiesta Bowl: TCU vs. Boise State
  • Orange Bowl: Iowa vs. Georgia Tech

The Longhorns struggled in the Big 12 championship game against the Cornhuskers' stout defense, but kept the game close all night by stonewalling Nebraska's offense. Hunter Lawrence's field goal as time expired put the Longhorns in the national championship game, which will be played Jan. 7 at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. It's a familiar setting for the Longhorns, who won a national title there in 2005.

Tickets and travel packages are available, but they won't come cheap. UT is sold out of its allotment of tickets, and Statesman.com reports that seats are going for $925 and up on the Web. The Texas Exes alumni group is offering a travel package that includes chartered planes, hotel rooms and ground transportation (but no game tickets) for between $1,000-2,000.

There are several teams that deserve a shot at a national title this year, but screw 'em. After how we got jobbed last year, I'm just glad we're one of the "chosen two."

If not for the preseason ranking we had, we wouldn't be going. It was close, but Hook 'Em \m/

  • Hard to believe they are in the Title Game this year. (Just my opinion folks!)
