Radio IST List: Drink Local Coffee Festival Today

Ed Note: Radio IST List is a column by guest contributor Robin Sinhababu, a North Carolina native and current East Austinite. Each week, Robin will be interviewing folks who, as he puts it, "create Austin's food, music, events, and sense of overwhelming and unavoidable fun." Recent Radio IST List posts can be viewed here.

From Robin:

I went to Owl Tree Roasting (3421 N. I-35, just south of Fiesta) to ask David Alan about the Drink Local Coffee Festival they're hosting from 11am to 2pm today. A dozen local coffee roasters will converge on Owl Tree, and folks can stop by to sample brews, buy beans, and observe a Barista Jam. Organizers suggest a $5 donation to Urban Roots.

Meanwhile, Franklin Barbecue will open in the parking lot adjacent to Owl Tree, with offerings likely to include coffee-rubbed brisket and leg of lamb.

Along the same lines, there's a there's a Drink Local Cocktail Contest at Palm Door (401 Sabine St.) this evening from 6 to 9pm where you can sample Texas spirits and see a cocktail competition between five local bartenders.
