Opening tonight's show are a second act that could easily be headlining. Officially the next big thing, London's The XX are a minimalist band who combine male and female vocals with such sparse arrangements that they might even best Britt Daniel's tunes at times. The band hail from the same London art school as Hot Chip and Four Tet, and you can tell. The songs on their self-titled debut are so subtle that it takes a few listens before one realizes that rather than being slight, they're actually understated works full of hooks and wildly catchy bridges and choruses. The potential of the album coupled with the band's youth (they're only 20) had audiences at New York's CMJ fighting for show admission, and we suspect there will be a lot of folks turning up tonight without tickets hoping to grab one from a scalper. Thankfully, we have one lucky reader covered, as we have a pair of tickets for the show to give away. Enter your details below for a chance to win. If you miss tonight's show, fear not: The XX are slated to open on Hot Chip's 2010 North American tour next spring and summer.
