With October's Tour De Vin at Whole Foods and November's Big Reds and Bubblies at The Driskill, fall is already the favored season for swanky wine and food pairing events in Austin. A new entrant to the mix this year is the Austin Cellar Classic, a two-day event hosted by Max's Wine Dive combining a pairing dinner on Friday with the main event of a grand wine tasting on Saturday. For this post, we're solely focused on the big wine tasting.

In our opinion, the wines on offer tomorrow represent an amazing value for your $40 entry fee (some lucky souls even got $25 tickets on Groupon last week!) Of the 100+ bottles being poured, several such as the Two Hands Charlie's Patch and Caymus Special Selection top $100 at retail per bottle - thus, it's a rare chance to taste some very opulent wine for a reasonable tariff. Other selections we're excited about include the fantastic Schramsberg Brut Rose and Blanc de Blanc bubblies, a selection of Willakenzie single-vineyard Pinot Noirs, and the always reliable huge California Syrahs from Rosenblum.

One twist to this event is that the organizers will actually be selling bottles at the event - if you like a wine, you can actually buy some on site. There will also be some light appetizers from Max's kitchen (which seems like a misnomer given the gluttony on display here) and live music during the event. There are two ticketed sessions - a matinee from 2-5, and the regular evening session from 7-10. If you were looking for something to do tomorrow and actually aren't headed to Fun Fun Fun, this seems like a no-brainer for all Austin foodies. Call 512-904-0111 for more information.
