The group are relative newbees to the scene - their first release We Breed Champions came out just last year, and the follow-up Let it Bleep hit stores and the internets in September. The band is building a reputation as a frenetic and wild live act, as evidenced by wild performances at Bonnaroo and choice of unbridled tour buddies which include Dead Confederate, Times New Viking and Port O'Brien. The group's sound doesn't fit easily into just one genre, but sits somewhere in the blurred pathways of electronic, garage, and just good ol' indie rock.
Fun Fest Artist Profiles: Royal Bangs, Sugar & Gold
They were just here, but Royal Bangs, out of Knoxville, obviously can't get enough of Austin.
And now for something completely different, but weirdly familiar. It's Sugar & Gold, the hyper funk five-piece from San Francisco. While obviously, assertively influenced by Prince, the group also throw some caffeinated post-punk into their sound, coming off like a strange milieu of Franz Ferdinand and Cameo. Maybe. The band are also playing dates in San Antonio, Houston and Denton, making it even easier for our out of town guests to catch them multiple times if they so desire.

I'm glad I saw this preview profile; I love TNV and DC, so to find out a band that tours with them is also playing the festival at a slot where there was no one I wanted to see anyway is a happy discovery. These profiles are really helpful for a festival like this, where it's like a mini-SXSW since the bands aren't 'high profile' in the way ACL Fest bands usually are.
Glad to hear.
