Eat For Free at Sagra's Fennel Feast, November 8th

In Italy, "Sagra" refers to local food festivals, often involving entire small towns and villages in the celebration of a particular food or dish. Locally, the Austin restaurant sharing this name attempted something similar this summer with its lavender feast.

Next Sunday, November 8th, they're toasting the humble fennel, a vitamin C-rich plant that has antioxidant properties and, uh, keeps your colon healthy. Best of all, the meal is free—"in celebration of the flavorful bulb and to thank his loyal family of customers," says Chef Gabriel Pellegrini.

The menu:

Mixed green salad
fennel pollen, orange and fennel

Fennel Gratinati
layers of fennel and potato baked with cheese

Brodetto
mussels, shrimp, squid, clams and fish in a “little broth” of fennel, saffron and tomatoes
grilled sourdough bread

The feast starts at 4 p.m. and will be served on a first-come, first-served basis until "food runs out." Desserts and cocktails are extra.
