Austin Batcave Presents - Writing About Music

Music Writing Workshop at Austin Batcave
Sunday, November 1
Austin Bat Cave (1807 w. 11th St)
Free, Requires Registration, Ages 6-18, 3pm
[info]
We've talked a few times about the Austin Batcave, a non-profit organization that aims to further the writing skills (both creative and non-fiction) of children and teenagers.

In March, the Batcave hosted a songwriting workshop featuring Will Sheff of Okkervil River. This weekend, the focus is shifting from writing songs to writing about songs.

On Sunday, a class will be taught by two Austinist music writers - Candace Birkelbach and William Mills - who will instruct the class and "discuss music journalism on many levels including types of writing, outlets, research, interviewing skills, writing techniques, ethics and listening techniques." The fun doesn't stop there: "We also plan to collect the student writing samples and make a newspaper for the participants to take home. Selected student works will be published on Austinist.com."

If you'd like to register or know someone who might, email them here. The class is open to students ages 6 to 18.
