Fun Fest Comedian Profile: Todd Barry (Is Icky?)

That’s right. Someone who worships Conan O’Brien believes Todd Barry to be “Icky”. So that puts Todd amongst the ranks of Gonzo Journalism and oh who gives a shit what O’Brien’s viewers think. Todd will be visiting Austin for Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009! But not necessarily to protest Eugene Mirman!

Todd Barry’s one of those comedians that you’ve seen and maybe didn’t actually hear. Or maybe you heard of him but haven’t seen him yet. Or haven’t seen that you haven’t heard. Or perhaps even further, that you saw him AND heard him on the first season of Flight of the Conchords. Or The Wrestler. Well, now you can’t say you’ve never heard of him. Because you read this. All the way to this sentence.

One time, Todd ate at the fabled Shady Grove restaurant here in Austin, where there is not only a grove, but shade. And that grove is indeed fucking shady. And Mr. Barry had the Hippie Plate. And you know how you know? Because he collects and comments on his receipts. On his internet identification proclamation portal location.

Favorite quote from another page within his internet portal location:

I'm glad there's a guy in front of my building playing the trumpet.
Todd Barry, on how he feels about a guy standing in front of his building playing the trumpet

But you know what? The interwebs are deceiving when it comes to the self-display of comedic talent. You might do better to take in a Todd Barry viewing, in the flesh, but likely clothed, at this year's Fun Fun Fun Fest. Saturday. Yellow stage. 6:30 pm. For the laughing times.

  • Todd Barry was on an episode of "Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist", so he's alright in my book. =)
