To coincide with the this year's theme, the museum is partnering with several eco-friendly organizations and businesses including Eco-Logic Sustainable Solutions, Ecology Austin, Edible Austin, Maya Exploration Center, Mellow Johnny's Bike Shop, and others. Restaurants and food vendors serving up healthy organic fare include Casa Chapala, La Mexicana Bakery, MMMpanadas, Oaxacan Tamaleo, Rio Grande Restaurant, Sazón, Colibrí Aguas Frescas, and Maine Root Organic Sodas. The museum has also asked all participating artists to create their work out of recycled, re-used, and sustainable materials. Featured local artists include Federico Archuleta, Ana Salinas, Fidencio Duran, and Regina Vater.
Throughout the day, festival goers can check out live performances by Charanga Cakewalk, Peligrosa All Stars, Tiburon, Mary Welch y Los Curanderos, Manuel “Cowboy” Donley, and more. In addition, there will be entertainment by Teatro Vivo, Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklorico de Texas, Ballet Folklorico Mexikayotl, and Cine las Americas.
The Grand Procession begins at 6pm and goes from Saltillo Plaza to 5th and Congress. The registration process to be an official part of the procession has already closed, but everyone is encouraged to dress up in costume and watch it go by!
