Fun Fest Artist Profile: Crystal Castles
Crystal Castles are prepared to wake up Waterloo Park on what would be a humble Sunday evening albeit for Fun Fun Fun Fest 2009. Trance-like, thumping beats are a sure fire way to wrap up the evening after a long day of absorbing great music. The Canadian boy-girl duo brings a whole new meaning to the experimental electronic genre. Crystal Castles are currently supporting their self-titled debut album.
We're oh-so-eager to see what comes up in their sophomore album, but until then we have the lo-fi recordings of "Air War" and "Bitter Hearts" to tide us over. The bouncy blips and sharp gameboy-esque glitches come just short of a rave, serving as the perfect muse for their chaotic live shows. The beats are balanced by lead singer Alice Glass's vocals, which cut through sound waves like, well, glass. For just two people, they manage to produce an aura that's pretty ferocious, warping their melodies into the brain like a disease.
