Two is a magic number when applied to garage bands. This year has seen a glut of talented duos ripping it up - WAVVES and Lullabye Arkestra are just a few examples - and similarly, the Vancouver band Japandroids have been pushing their own "maximal," duo-driven agenda since 2006.
Started by dudes Brian King and David Prowse, the band put out two EPs followed by an LP this year entitled Post-Nothing (check out the Marquee Moon-esque cover here). The band is touring in support of the new record, and on Wednesday they hit Emo's.
And that's just the beginning. Currently on the road with the band are the Atlanta four-piece Coathangers, who have been turning heads with their second album of ramshackle punk, entitled Scramble. Local outfit Woven Bones will warm up the stage, prior to a run of shows in New York alongside Reading Rainbow. The group have a new EP out on Zoo Music entitled Minus Touch.
