Austinite Accused of Sexually Abusing, Keeping Another Man Captive For Past Year
Authorities recently showed up at the apartment of Augustin Barcenas, 41, to check a tip they'd received about an illegal immigrant being held there against his will. During the questioning, police met with another man in the residence, who Barcenas introduced as his nephew.
Barcenas insisted on translating for him, claiming the man couldn't speak English. When a police translator was brought on scene, Barcenas still refused to let the man answer questions on his own; only after the two were placed in separate rooms did the victim reveal that Barcenas was not his real uncle.
Threatening that he "could make his family disappear," Barcenas allegedly physically and sexually abused the man and held him captive for the past year. The victim complied both out of fear that Barcenas—who boasted about killing someone previously—would make good on his threats, and well as being deported back to Guatemala.
Barcenas, who now faces several felony charges of sexual assault and detaining immigration/naturalization services, denies everything and claims that he "only has sex with women."
