This weekend Art Outside will bring two film festival programs to the Austin-ish area, much to the satisfaction of the city's rabid film fanatics.

The Austin Underground Film Festival takes place Friday night with a retrospective showcase of their last three years. If you haven't had a chance to attend AUFF in the past and are wondering what it's all about, this festival was created in the spirit of bringing true underground films to audiences. Feeling as though most underground film festivals were only separated from the mainstream by budget, the founders decided to create a space to encourage unconventional and risque subject matter The films playing this time around present a fine example of that. A few underground break outs will also be included such as Lev Yilmaz's Tales of Mere Existence.

Saturday night brings the Elevate Film Festival, which originated as a 48 hour film festival with a conscience. Now filmmakers are given the task of creating a short film, documentary, music video, or commercial that focuses on an individual or organization making a difference in the world in just seven days. The audience become participants in the event which uses advanced sound and visual technology that demonstrates the effects of sight and sound on the human body. The festival has gained notoriety earning support from Hollywood heavy hitters like Kevin Costner, Jeff Goldblum, and Alanis Morissette.

Be sure to check out the schedule of other events going on and purchase tickets!
