Giveaway: Deer Tick + Alberta Cross At Emo's Indoors [Friday]

We're mostly repeating ourselves here, but read on for more information on this action-packed triple bill at Emo's Indoors along with an opportunity to win a pair of tickets to the now sold out gig.

From our ACL artist preview: "Providence's Deer Tick started out as a one-man band, but have become a quartet over the past few years. Incorporating influences such as Roy Orbison, Richie Valens, and early Van Morrison, the group plays a fairly minimal and gritty brand of rock that is just as classic as it is indie. Singer/chief songwriter John McCauley's vocals are raspy and full of cigarettes and whisky, lending themselves well to tales of sadness and desperation. The tunes sound capable of appealing equally well to urban hipsters and aging Creedence fans, and frankly, if Quentin Tarantino ever makes a Vietnam movie, these guys will totally be on the soundtrack. The group are touring behind 2009 sophomore album Born On Flag Day, which has made some noise due to both the band's relentless touring and the catchy lead track "Easy" finding a home on a number of music blogs and satellite radio stations."

California's The Henry Clay People are second on the bill, and should actually play a little louder and more rambunctiously than the nuanced Deer Tick. The band play classic bar band material with a bit of a punk bent, but remind us more than anything of The Hold Steady and The Replacements - think melodic and purposefully shambolic. The Henry Clay People aren't exactly in Paul Westerberg territory yet, but they have potential.

From our ACL artist preview: "There's a fairly direct classic rock sensibility to the music of New York's Alberta Cross - to put it simply, fans of Neil Young and Ryan Adams will find this hugely appealing. The band originally formed in London, but you'd never know it from the loud guitars and ramshackle drumming that will immediately make you think of "Southern Man" and "Ohio". Alberta Cross arrive at ACL to support new ATO album Broken Side Of Time (which was recorded in Austin with Spoon producer Mike Mccarthy) after opening from everyone from Oasis to Dave Matthews in recent months. The band calls the record "darker" and "angrier" than their debut album, and cites living in New York as the primary reason for their edginess. Expect a lot of KGSR listeners to wander over to this stage based on the open guitar chords alone - it is Americana with mass appeal."

Sure love those Providence trouble makers. Only could get a ticket for Friday ACL and emo's sold out so fast that I missed out on that. Pretty bummed that I missed out on them this time, but as with all great bands, I'm sure we will see them again soon in this fine city!
