Mates of State are no strangers to Austin. They pop in pretty frequently to play shows at Emo's, La Zona Rosa and other typical venues. With class and charm, they present blissful boy-girl harmonies backed by only a drum set and keys. Though simplistic, Mates of State always manage to sound sincere and powerful.

What makes them special is their continued effort to do really cool things like free shows for students and performances in places like The Driskill Hotel lobby. We had a chance to speak with them at ACL last year, and although the won't be returning to the mammoth festival grounds this year, a free show for UT students is a pretty good consolation prize.

*The only catch is that you have to pick up the free passes beforehand. Free pass distribution started last week, but hopefully there's still some left. Bring a valid student, staff or faculty ID to the Texas Union's Events & Info Desk (UNB 4.300) before 5pm today with fingers crossed.

Everyone's sure to find the Mates' delicate harmonies pleasing to the ear, so be sure to pick up a pass or steal borrow a friend's ID to get in.
