In preparation for the sensory overload that is ACL (or just because it’ll be cool), check out Guatemalan Residue, a crazy hodgepodges of visual and aural insanity that’s part of Austin Film Society’s Avant Cinema line of programming.

Directed by Independent filmmaker Todd Rohal, this collection of shorts, music videos and public access clips picks up where the shenanigans of The Guatemalan Handshake left off. In case you missed it, The Guatemalan Handshake, a dramatic and offbeat comedy featuring demolition derbies, unruly boy scouts and a chick named Turkeylegs, took home the Special Jury Prize at the Slamdance fest in 2006 and established Rohal as someone who the film community should keep its eye on.

Guatemalan Residue sounds equally off-the-freakin-wall. Expect bits of surrealism, experimental film techniques, plenty of raunchy humor and a “live music interlude” featuring BOB The Band. Did we mention that Danny McBride (of Pineapple Express and Tropic Thunder) makes a couple of appearances within the short films? Or that the presentation contains 12 shorts in all, many of them under five minutes long? Your ADD will love it.
