Weekend Art Roundup

There are many great art events taking place this weekend all over town - here's a rundown of the highlights:

On Friday afternoon, designer Kori Jones of I Rok Gems is having a trunk show at Parts and Labour. Jones, who got her start as a buyer for a bead store, combines metal, stone, and glass beads to create original and bold pieces.

Tonight Austin-based ad and marketing firm the Screamer Company is hosting an art show and interactive exhibit at the United States Art Authority. Featuring fourteen artists including Katy Horan, Will Bryant, and Digeo Mireles, the multi-media show will include participatory pieces and art for sale. The exhibit, being called Conversation Piece will run from 6-10pm and includes free beer.

The crafty crew of The WonderCraft will be at Jerry's Artarama on Saturday between noon and 3pm to help you make your own recycled creature. The WonderCraft travels in style in Stella, their newly outfitted mobile crafting Airstream trailer, which delivers supplies and inspiration all over town.

On Saturday night Monofonus Press is throwing farewell party for the multi-talented Eric Shaw. Shaw has been in town recording with Peter and the Wolf and also apparently hanging out at the Monofonus compound making mystical paintings and drawings. Matthew Palladino and Chaz Ganster will also have art on exhibit. The show will be followed by an after party at Baby Blue Studios (at 1522 E. 12th) with Peter and the Wolf and other musical guests.

Definitely don't miss The 24 Hour Roman Reconstruction Project being installed at the Arthouse beginning tonight at midnight and going until Saturday at midnight. The all-hours event will be quite a spectacle to behold, especially for those wandering back to their cars after a long night on Sixth Street.
