  • Wes, good try.... but I am a born & bread Texan,

not a 'hipster'-cannot wait for that term to float on.

Love George Strait... but I still will not pay for high ticket prices + gas.

    Sorry, I am poor.

  • Wes

I didn't mean you personally, I was just pointing out that the Cedar Park Center will cater to large number of people who live in Cedar Park, Leander, Round Rock, etc. rather than people who live in central Austin. For people who live out there it is convenient.

Built for music first and hockey second? I think I also heard the Cedar Park Arena make the music first claim. Then why did they build it with seats that circle a hockey playing area? Hockey & basketball arenas are built with seats surrounding the court so that everyone has a view of the players. You don't make music venues with seats that surround the stage for 360 degrees. Music venues are built with seats that directly face the stage so that everyone has a view and can hear well. Or maybe they don't know that in Kelly Clarkson land.

I read that the Cedar Park Venue was built specifically for music and hockey second. Of course, I don't have an reference so I might be full of it. :$

If they were trying to book the hipster flavor of the month band at the Cedar Park Arena then yes, it would be a poor location, but in case you haven't noticed the type of people who buy tickets to George Strait and Kelly Clarkson also live in Cedar Park. For them, it's a great location. I imagine that the Cedar Park Center will really cut into the Erwin center's concert business. All these country acts and Disney on Ice type shows will head to Cedar Park from now on.

The Cedar Park venue will be successful for what it was built as - a Hockey Arena. It will turn out to be a decent Hockey Arena that doubles as a venue for church meetings, speaking engagements and seminars.

  • davetx

It's going to be a good hockey team, too. With all due respect to the former Ice Bats, the AHL is a big step up from the CHL.

  • Thanks for the chance to win...sorry Cedar Park,

but that venue is going down within 1-2 years...

    just a horrible location.

    BACKYARD take notes here!!! :)

Love Wilco, but after paying for a ticket and GAS to get there...I skipped it.

    FINGERS CROSSED on this giveaway!!!

    THANK YOU AUSTINist!
