Each week, we'll look at some reasons to taunt, belittle, and bully the Longhorns' football opponent. This one's almost too easy: the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
- Revenge: We haven't forgotten the last-second loss last year in Lubbock. We were one play away from a Big 12 Championship and a shot at an undefeated season and national title. Yes, Michael Crabtree "dreamed it in his head", but he's not around anymore and we're ready for payback.
- Look, We're Pirates!: Ever since Tech coach Mike Leach passed his interest in pirates along to his players, there's been a never-ending string of eye patches, Jolly Roger flags, and other buccaneer-abilia from Red Raider players and fans. Leach is like the dad who likes golf and gets golf-related presents on every holiday: he's got a pirate statue in his office, a pirate-theme parking space, and appears with an eye patch on the cover of Texas Monthly. Too bad the pirate fad in pop culture is as tired as the zombie fad. On the other hand, Saturday is Talk Like a Pirate Day. Remember that when you're complaining to the referees. (Arrgh! He be a-holdin' me!)
- You Stay Classy, Lubbock: For years, Tech fans celebrated touchdowns by throwing tortillas, sometimes scrawled with obscene messages. University police cracked down on that, but that can't stop them from having wacky personalized license plates!
- Quarterback Mustache War: Colt McCoy vs. Taylor Potts

Last Week Around the -ISTs

I thought our defense looked great. Last year they were a little soft, but they put it down on Tech.
