Headlining the event are The Eastern Sea and No Mas Bodas. Wistful and hauntingly beautiful, The Eastern Sea transcends the listener to a completely different era of music. Images a dew-speckled fields of grass are conjured as a result of the delicate, yet jaunting melodies. Think Elliott Smith without the sheer sadness and with a richer sound.
No Mas Bodas are a funky, psychedelic entourage combining cello, guitar, xylophone, synth and sax to make music from an entirely different world. Devlish dissonance rides alongside ambient, primal notes. No Mas Bodas is one experimental group we're excited about following this year.
Best Fwends, self-proclaimed "New Bad Boys of Rock," come to Austin by way of Fort Worth. Their heavy, video-game centric beats are probably only palatable by a certain musical taste, but that demographic is undoubtedly in love with them. They somehow manage to combine thrash, punk and new age into one ridiculous package.
Fat Tony, an impressive rapper from Houston, has a repertoire of witty lyrics backed by bombastic beats. He won Best Hip Hop Artist in 2008 and 2009 from the Houston Press Awards and it's only moments before he becomes big in Austin.
The Low Lows take a step up each day on the Austin indie rock scene staircase. Their sound is full of campfire-y, cosmic goodness with an intensity all their own. Melancholy has its way with fierceness and the result is The Lows Lows.
Be sure to come early and stay late. All of these acts deserve a proper listening.
