Here in Austin it seems that just about everyone who’s not a student can’t make rent and buy more than a Lone Star or two in the same month. For those people, the word “free” is just about the sweetest word there is. But we’ve thought of an even better one—FREE-D. As in, jumping off the screen into your face, and at no cost to you. Use it in a sentence, you say? Not a problem.

This weekend, the Alamo Village is screening 2007 sci-fi movie-with-a-message Battle for Terra in FREE-D! Saturday and Sunday mornings at 11 a.m., you can come let adorably giant-eyed CGI aliens (voiced by Evan Rachel Wood and Luke Wilson) jump off the screen and dip their little alien appendages into your mimosa.

What’s not to love about this plan? It’s not so early that it will interfere with your sleeping-in time but it’s early enough that you can still have your weekend to run errands or beg for change, or whatever it is you do. Start the day with some state of the art computer animation that maybe—just maybe—teaches us all a little something about…ourselves.

Hey, did we mention it’s in FREE-D? It’s a new word we made up. Tell all your friends. It’s gonna be huge.
