Weekend Art Roundup

There are lots of great art events taking place around town this weekend (especially on Saturday!). Here's a rundown of a few of the highlights...

Domy Books is celebrating new exhibits in their gallery and project space. Head over to the store on Saturday from 7-9pm to see the debut of Your Heart is Not a Museum, new work by Levi Dugat and Leah DeVun. The pair's second collaborative show, Your Heart includes kitsch-meets-hipster portraits by Dugat and amazingly intricate drawings of diamonds done by DeVun. Over in the project space, Jade Walker has put together an installation that reflects themes of sports, gender, the human body, and injury.

Also on Saturday, Bay6 Studios is hosting an opening reception for Becoming, new works by Elizabeth Decker. Her emotional drawings read like a page out of Decker's journal, with intimate explorations of feelings jotted down on paper. Bay6 is also acting as the Austin collection center for the Fundred Dollar Bill Project, an interactive, conceptual art piece that hopes to raise awareness for environmental contamination in post Katrina New Orleans. Drop off your Fundred Dollar Bill at Bay6 between 7 and 10pm on Saturday and stick around for Decker's opening.

For those more interested in performance art, modern dance, or public servants shakin' their trash compactors, don't forget to check out the Forklift Danceworks production, The Trash Project. Held over at Austin Studios, two dozen of the city's finest solid waste management workers and their machines will engage in a choreographed dance set to music composed by Graham Reynolds. Door open at 7pm on Saturday, and admission is free with first-come, first-serve seating for 700 guests. In the event of rain, this trashy production will be rescheduled for Sunday.
