Chicago’s Kill Hannah peddle a similar dark sound, produced to perfection and highlighted by chiming guitars and ringleader Mat Devine’s passionate pleas. Devine formed Kill Hannah (Hannah was an ex-girlfriend) in the mid-90’s; the band had a brief stint with Atlantic Records, resulting in 2003’s For Never & Ever (featuring “Kennedy”) and 2006’s Until There’s Nothing Left Of Us (released abroad on Roadrunner Records). Their latest album, Wake Up The Sleepers is due on the 29th of this month on Original Signal Recordings (Stateside) and Roadrunner overseas. You have a choice of three packages when pre-ordering it via the band’s online store -- the $34.99 deal will be especially appealing to fans -- it includes audio commentary, 14 album covers designed by Devine, an autographed telegram (to the troops), a pendant, and a pillowcase! First up this evening on Emo’s outside stage, Nashville’s Paper Route showcase their lush, radio-ready poptronic soundscapes.
Inside, Chairlift’s whimsical concoctions take center-stage -- purchase tickets for that show here. Local hotshots TV Torso and Booher & The Turkeys open.
