Log Jam on MoPac

As originally reported in the Statesman yesterday, Austinite Michelle Deloach was driving up MoPac on Labor Day, headed for a barbecue, when a 5-foot-long tree log smashed into her Honda Civic.

Like that scene in one of those Final Destination movies, the wood stump appeared seemingly out of nowhere. "The cars in front of me hit [the log], causing it to fly back and hit my car," Deloach, 19, explained in the Statesman's comments section.

"I didn't even see it until it was 20 feet in the air, flying at me. All I could do was slow down and pull over to avoid injuring anyone else."

The log punched a large hole through the front windshield before flipping over the top of the sedan, and struck the rear windshield. Miraculously, neither Deloach nor any of the passengers in the car were injured. Authorities are unsure about where the debris came from.

A 5-ft long pecan log could do a lot of damage too.

Thank god it was a tree log, and not another variety.

That's amazing. I'm glad to hear that no one was hurt.
