It wasn’t until we saw the troupe that we finally understood why people had mourned the death of vaudeville and the end of the era where burlesque was a popular public amusement. Before seeing the Jigglewatts, we’d never really gotten the entertainment value of boobs before. Yet those girls converted us!
Luckily you can see the Jigglewatts tonight at the Drink Pink Summer Blowout, benefiting the Breast Cancer Resource Center. That’s right, you can go see burlesque, while having a drink, in order to assist women in their fight against breast cancer!
Burlesque won't be the only attraction on the menu this evening! The "Boob Bash" also brings:
Bluegrass Dennis Ludiker Trio, The Copper Pots and Ruby Jane Smith
Burgers New Gourmet Natural Black Angus burgers from Creekstone Farms.
Bra’s Tonight’s event will feature the BCRC’s new 2010 “Art Bra” calendar available for purchase. Models from the calendar will be at the event, signing the calendars. (Copies of the 2009 Art Bra Calendar will be given free with a donation.)
Blouses Limited-edition “Drink Pink” T-Shirts will be available for $12, benefiting the BCRC.
Booze This event is part of Opal Divines “Drink Pink ”campaign. During “Drink Pink,” Opal Divine’s will be making a donation to Austin’s BCRC for every Prickly Pear Margarita sold. The BCRC’s cut comes to 50 cents per drink, $1.00 per shaker. (We understand Opal Divine’s house-made Prickly Pear Rita mix includes: pasteurized fresh-squeezed lime juice, organic agave nectar and prickly pear purée.) The summer “Drink Pink” is now continuing thru October, aka “Breast Cancer Awareness Month.”
Our “B’s” runneth over.
If you can't make it out to "Boob Bash," you can also support the BCRC by participating in some of the many fundraising activities happening here in Austin. In late October, Austin Plastic Surgeon Ned Snyder will be donating the proceeds from one day of Botox procedures to the BCRC, in an event called Botox For Breast Cancer. Also in October, proceeds from the Austin charity haunted house Scare for a Cure go towards supporting the BCRC. Check out the events page of the BCRC to learn more about events supporting their work!
The Breast Cancer Resource Center helps nearly 5,000 clients a year navigate through the process of a breast cancer diagnosis. They provide emotional and practical support to their clients, and give it from discovery through recovery. All BCRC services are free of charge. Susan Parker, Proprietor of Opal Divine’s, is among the women who have been helped by the BCRC.
