If there's one thing that will bring the boys (and girls) to the yard, it's a good dance party that follows a night of thought provoking art cinema. Of course, it's smart to throw in a drink special for good measure. Tonight, Homoscope, an international queer short cinema event, will do just that at Artseen Alliance, with all benefits going to support the arts programs at ALLGO, a statewide organization for queer people of color.

Bug Davidson started the event last August as a way to raise funds for a short film he was directing. After last year's turnout, where attendants stayed late to chat, this year's event was turned into an evening of fun to focus on community and support local artists.

Aside from featuring work by an extensive list of international filmmakers and artists, the event will feature the short film Lesbian Sasquatch by acclaimed local filmmaker PJ Raval and artistic terrorist Paul Soileau. The duo have been working on various collaborative film projects under the name Three Dollar Cinema.

Other filmmakers and artists to check out at the event include Karel Doing & Lieber Gorilla, Tera Greene, William E. Jones, Cathrine Crouch, and Tom De Pekin.

Although the event celebrates an artistic craft, it can't be too snooty—award categories include "Weird," "Funny," "Sticky," and "Eff-ed Up."
