In 2009, the performer also known as Declan MacManus has moved his attention back to traditional country and folk, cutting an odds-and-sods record in just three days titled Secret, Profane, and Sugarcane with storied producer T-Bone Burnett. Since Burnett also brought us the O Brother, Where Art Thou? soundtrack, one can see what is coming here: fiddle, bluegrass, and a loose porch-front feel. Costello will perform works from both this record and his back catalog at UT's Bass Concert Hall on Tuesday. Noted Nashville session aces Jim Lauderdale and Jerry Douglas both participated in the recording of the record, and both should appear with him next week. Overall, the country-folk concept is something that plays to Costello's strengths, with a focus on lyrics and explorations of sadder, lovelorn themes, so it should be quite a pleasure to watch. Tickets for the show are still available through UTPAC.org.
Austinist has a pair of tickets to give away for next week's gig. To enter, fill in your details in the box below.
This contest is now closed, congrats to our winners Henna and Isaac!
