Show Preview: Gliss, My Education, The Clouds Are Ghosts, and New Roman Times at Stubb's

Something about walking down to the basement bar at Stubb's feels like you're walking back in time. You almost expect Teddy Roosevelt to charge you a nickel at the entrance for the price of admission and a brown paper cone of hot mustard peanuts. Now, we're well aware that Stubb's is not that old, and maybe it's just the smoky tang in the air from all that cooking meat, but we're just sayin'. It's pleasant. It's even better when you're coming out to catch four (count 'em) bands all worth their salt and a bag of chips.

Tonight, New Roman Times opens up a fantastic lineup with an educated, dreamy pop that reminds us that while The Stills are "still" a band (maybe?), these guys are doing it better. On the other end of the roster are headliners Gliss, a trio of LA rockers who collide together on deep, threatening psych-influenced rock, something you would find on the soundtrack for Fight Club 2, or opening for The Warlocks (which they are, awesomely). In between, Austin post-rock stalwarts My Education bring the beautiful, wordless dramatics, and our very own The Clouds Are Ghosts pimp the gray moods of their Ambient-Electro. Just like the good ol' days.
