SXSW Panel Picker Pimpin'
Although the Panel Picker has been used to help program panels for SXSW Interactive since 2006, this is the first year that the tool will be used to select panels for the Film and Music conferences.
Another change this year is a simplified voting structure. Rather than rating an item from 1-5 stars, it's simply thumbs-up or thumbs-down.
And in what's become somewhat of an annual tradition, potential panelists are promoting their ideas and stumping for votes on Facebook and Twitter.
Votes from the Panel Picker count carry about 30% of the total weight for programming choices. Another 30% comes from the SXSW staff, and 40% from the SXSW Advisory Board, a group of industry professionals from around the world.
