Register Now: Art in Public Places Workshop with Ned Kahn [Art Preview]

Registration is now open for the City of Austin's Cultural Arts Division's workshop, Discovery and Dialogue: Public Art on its Head. The full day symposium is scheduled for September 12th and will feature keynote speaker Ned Kahn who will join the group for lunch. Kahn's work replicates the forces of nature, and many of his pieces can be experienced at San Francisco's Exploratorium where museum goers can interact with his educational exhibits. A MacArthur Fellow, Kahn has also created large scale public art pieces including a giant tornado inside a pavilion at the 2000 World's Fair in Germany.

Participants of the "Discovery and Dialogue" workshop will learn about Austin's public art program, how to create successful proposals for public art projects, and insider tips on getting projects selected. The $10 registration fee includes parking and lunch as well as a Public Art Resource Guide. A docent will lead a tour of UT's innovative Landmarks Collection, and discuss the university's initiative to set aside one to two percent of construction costs for its Art in Public Spaces program. A Resource Lounge will be set up for small group consultations of artists interested in discussing their work and projects with presenters.

Registration can be completed online; the workshop will be held from 9am to 5pm on Saturday, September 12th at the Thompson Conference Center on the UT campus.
