Calling All Artists: Open Application Season
Electric Promotions, the brains and beauty behind the recent All Austin All Handmade Bash, are putting together another fashion forward art event in September. We Make Stuff will take place on September 19th at the Scoot Inn and will feature Team Etsy Austin members, the WonderCraft crew, music, fashion, and a skateboard painting contest. Prospective vendors or fashion show participants can apply online - and do so soon, because the deadline to apply is this Friday, the 14th!
East Austin Studio Tour, or E.A.S.T., is going to take place over two weekends this year, from November 14th through November 22nd. Of course, this is great news for art voyeurs interested in a glimpse into the creative process, but it also means that participating studios must be willing to stay open to the public on both weekends. Applications are also being accepted for E.A.S.T. exhibition spaces (theaters, galleries, etc.), happenings (temporary art projects, performance pieces, etc.), and programs (workshops or lectures). Applications are due on Tuesday, September 1st by 6pm and need to be mailed to Big Medium. All the application information, including forms, can be found online. Of course, to be eligible to participate, you must be located east of I-35 and south of 51st Street, and north of the river.
As we mentioned a few weeks ago, Blue Genie Art Bazaar is accepting applications through Friday, September 4th. Prospective vendors can fill out an application packet online and selected artists will be notified on October 2nd. The bazaar will again be held at the Monarch Events Center and will run from December 2nd through Christmas eve. The nearly month long show and sale presents a unique opportunity and challenge to participating artists who are selected - they get to have their items sold at this popular, temporary store, but need to be able to furnish enough handmade goods to remain stocked for the four weeks of holiday rush.
Blue Genie's older, more conventional cousin, the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar is also accepting applications. Armadillo will again be held at the Convention Center but will pay tribute to its Armadillo World Headquarter roots by pairing notable musical performances with holiday shopping. Vendors who can round up a sales tax permit, set up for credit card payments, staffing for all show hours, and sufficient merchandise for the show's run (December 11th through the 24th), can apply online.
After the disappointing, if unsurprising closure of the Enchanted Forest, Art Outside has partnered with Art Seen Alliance to relocate the event to the Texas Hill Country, where it will evolve into a weekend long festival of art, music, fashion, dance, camping, and of course fire art. Scheduled for October 9th through the 11th, Art Outside will be held at Apache Pass in Rockdale, TX (about one hour outside of Austin). Event organizers are now accepting applications for visual artists, performers, film screenings, fashion show participants, musicians, as well as vendor booths for art and food. Applications must be submitted prior to September 14th and can be completed online.
The Cherrywood Art Fair is currently accepting applications for artists, sponsors, and volunteers for the event that will take place on December 12th and 13th. The non-profit event is held annually at Maplewood Elementary School and proceeds from the show's well stocked silent auction go towards school improvements, as well as arts and landscaping programs in central East Austin. Over sixty artists participate in the jurried show selling their wares along side musical performances, locally catered food, and art activities. Those interested in applying can do so online or by mail.
Believe it or not, Art Alliance Austin is already accepting applications for Art City Austin 2010. Scheduled for next April, Art City Austin will bring art collectors and artists together for a weekend long festival held along the banks of Lady Bird Lake. This highly competitive jurried show receives many applicants for its nearly 200 booths. Applications for Art City Ausitn 2010 are due by November 15th and have to be submitted online.
