WiMAX is a wireless data communication standard that enables so-called "metropolitan area networks," akin to a citywide wireless mesh. The official site boasts connectivity ranges of up to 30 miles, while the leaked memo above notes transfer speeds up to 5 times faster than today's widely-available 3G technology.
Other Texas regions on the roadmap include Dallas/Fort Worth, West Texas, and San Antonio, with Houston noticeably absent from the list but expected to get access in early 2010.

I see the city of West Texas, TX, also is on the WiMAX list. Congrats to the fine folks in West Texas (which I believe is located between Tyler and Lufkin).
Or did they mean the town of West? That's the Czech capital of Texas by the way. Anyway West Texas in East Texas shows Texans' sense of humor in naming cities. Here's a few more odd ones:
Pyote
Cut And Shoot
Boracho
Dime Box
White Settlement
Odessa -- And who thought of naming a Texas town after a place in Eastern Europe and only few miles from George Bush's hometown, named Midland because it's -- you guessed it -- midway between Dallas and El Paso.
I'm sure there's way more odd Texas place names that haven't come to my attention while living all of my 53 years in the state.
