Weekend Music Preview: Room 710's Final Weekend

In nearly ten years of existence, Room 710 hosted a wide variety of local and touring artists, tirelessly supplying the city of Austin with a multitude of live shows. Last week, owner Asher Garber shared his thoughts on the Room 710’s history, his own background, the good (and not so good times), and the challenges he faced as he toiled to keep the club afloat. During the interview, Garber was resolute in his belief that the venue did not only cater to the punk and metal fans. And as we approach the end of an era on 710 Red River St., his words could not ring truer -- Room 710’s Final Weekend features a veritable sampling of distinct genres, offering patrons a final opportunity to enjoy a stellar collection of shows at the club.

Friday is reserved for the hard stuff -- Scraps Of Life, Split Hoof, Burn Heavy, and Hawg Jaw team up to metal up Room 710 one more time. We’re especially excited about Saturday’s bill -- HUG’s experimental concoctions get the adrenalin flowing at 8 p.m. before 90 minutes sets by Foot Patrol and Pong surely transform the whole place into a dance floor. Foot Patrol are raising funds for their upcoming tour to New York and just this past Saturday, they electrified Scoot Inn with a plethora of covers at their 80's Dance Party.

Finally, on Sunday, Brits Bobby Long and Marcus Foster tinge Room 710’s final hours with a softer, poignant shade to accommodate any tears in the offing. The duo co-wrote “Let Me Sign,” performed by Rob Pattinson and available on the iTunes digital album version of the Twilight soundtrack.
