Weekend Art Roundup

Don't miss the great art events taking place around town this weekend. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Central Texas artists Jana Swec and Jared Theis have a new show at d berman gallery. Swec, an East Austin Studio Tours co-founder, creates fine pen and ink drawings inspired by lines that appear in nature. Complimenting her work nicely, Theis' work consists of etched ceramic pieces and sculptures that suggest urban barnacles growing out of piano frames. The gallery is open from noon to 5pm and the exhibit will run through September 5th.

On Saturday, Art Seen Alliance is holding another session of Naked Lunch: Figure Drawing for Animators. Billed as "short poses for short attention spans", the lovely Michelle Keffer will model poses that are not "longer than a Warner Bros. short". The session will be held at the United States Art Authority (next to the Spider House). Seating for the event is limited and those interested in participating can RSVP online.

Those interested in a little less cartoon nudity in their art appreciation might consider attending Hosteria Verde Supper Club's benefit dinner for the Mexic-Arte Museum which is being held on Saturday at 7pm at the museum. For $65 a person, diners can enjoy Mexican inspired cuisine and a complimentary cocktail hour provided by Republic Tequila. Reserve your seat now! This is the final weekend to view Mexic-Arte's impressive 25th Anniversary Exhibit featuring selections from the museum's permanent collection.

It's also the last weekend to check out Tony Nozero's exhibit, Word at the Continental Club Gallery. The one time musician from Drums & Tuba has picked up a painting and put together quite a body of work. The vibrant acrylic paintings in the exhibit were painted in New Orleans and are the artist's reflection of the city. Word runs through July 31st.

On Sunday from 6-9pm, BiRDHOUSE Gallery will be exhibiting new work by Graham Franciose with the exhibit There's a story in there somewhere. The nostalgic illustrations will be paired with the musical stylings of Elisa Ferrari.
