Contributing to a worthy cause can be fun when there's a drink special and a party soundtrack, which is why Project Transitions brings their summer party, Red Hot XVIII, to Oilcan Harry's this Friday night. The 18th annual party benefits people living with HIV/AIDS through the foundation's various programs.

Barbara Davis founded Project Transitions in 1986 as a support group for people living with AIDS in Austin, and it has since become a great resource for hospice and housing services for individuals and families living with HIV/AIDS. The first hospice program at Doug's House began in 1989 and has maintained above 90% occupancy since.

If you're unfamiliar with what has become Austin's summer party, last year's Red Hot XVII was named "Best Independent AIDS Fundraiser" by the Chronicle and pulled in $20,500. This year's party will feature an extensive complimentary buffet, a silent auction of over 150 items, a special drawing, live entertainment featuring the Austin Babtist Women, and happy hour until 10 p.m. Oilcan's suggests a donation of $5 to enter and all of the entry donations go straight to Project Transitions' programs, where no one is turned away for an inability to pay.
