Party Like A Superhero: For a Good Cause [2nd Annual Superhero Show Tonight at La Zona Rosa]

What’s better than good music for a great cause? The Second Annual Super Hero show features a smorgasbord of acclaimed local musicians: Alejandro Escovedo, James McMurtry, Ian McLagan & The Bump Band, and Right Or Happy (formerly The Reivers). But the superheroes of its title may be the dedicated men and women of the multidisciplinary medical team at Austin Child Guidance Center; they provide mental health services for children and their families as well as community education.

Alejandro Escovedo is an Austin institute unto himself, reflecting our city’s signature alt/country sound, a genre he had a hand in creating as a member of Rank and File in the early '80s. His solo career performances are nationally lauded, including an invitation to join Bruce Springsteen onstage last spring, followed later by a performance at the Democratic National Convention.

Ian 'Mac' McLagan can comfortably claim rock icon status, having written many Faces hits as well as touring and recording with the Rolling Stones. He has received the Ivor Novello award for his contribution to British music.

James McMurtry is a singer/songwriter in Texas’ great gritty character-sketch ballads. His literary taste derives perhaps from his novelist and screen writer father, Larry McMurtry. He appeared on the soundtrack of the film "Falling from Grace," and has worked with John Mellencamp, John Prine, Joe Ely, and Dwight Yoakam on the group project Buzzin' Cousins.

In addition to tonight’s fabulous lineup at Austin landmark bar/church, La Zona Rosa, there will be a silent auction featuring items such as two tickets to Austin City Limits Music Festival, massage gift certificates, and a weekend stay with breakfast for two at the Omni Hotel.
