Once upon a time a member of Deerhoof, Chris Cohen left that band and has made a new home for his sound in the poppy Cryptacize. After releasing the lovely Mythomania on Asthmatic Kitty, the band has regrouped as a four-piece and are touring in support of the album.

Performing this Saturday evening with Cryptacize are locals Black Before Red and Belaire. The fun synth-poppers in Belaire have been recording since April, and should have a new record out in 2009. A couple of years ago Black Before Red were on the scene with a new album and sporadic shows, and have had the opportunity to play some big bills since then with White Denim and others. What they're doing now isn't entirely clear - hopefully it involves working on a followup to their last record.
